I met a lady that was serving at a church event that we were catering. Her name was Mexia (not Me-hay-a like the city in Texas, but Mex-e-a). She was present at a few events that we did at Church of the Highlands and loved our food every time, so she asked if we catered wedding and showers.
Mexia is a wonderful lady that is getting married in September and was having a bridal shower at the Botanical Gardens here in Birmingham, AL. We sat down and came up with a rustic southern feel for her brunch shower to feed 70 people.
We decided to go with an eclectic mix of southern breakfast and lunch items, like:
- Shrimp and Grits
- Bacon and Grits
- Chicken Tenders
- Southern Style Buttermilk Biscuits
- Classic Crescent Rolls
- Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
- Egg and Sausage Quiche
We also set up a complete separate Yogurt Bar filled with:
- Vanilla Yogurt
- Gluten Free, made-from-scratch Granola
It was great mix of sweet and salty. We set the meal up buffet style and staged it with varying heights in multiple dishes, using both cast iron and beautiful white platters. We also used a tiered rectangular tray stand to stage the individual cups of Shrimp and Grits.
Overall, this event was amazing and we had a blast doing it! I love food and I love people. Listening to the vision that people have in their head and making it a reality is my favorite. Presentation and taste is critical to creating an event that everyone loves, and it's what Mealfit prides itself on.
