How to read 100 books in a year

Don't let that title freak you out.

When most people hear that big of a number, they recoil a little bit. But the fact of the matter is that reading is one of the most consistently recognized habits of successful people. The problem is that most people feel like they don't have time to read for themselves at all, much less to read two books every week out of the year. But as I've learned, it's a lot easier to read 100 books in a year.

First of all, get an Audible account, and start lining up the books you want to read. I have a list of my most influential and favorite books here. 

You may not realize it, but you have hours of reading time out there in the week. There are a couple of places that you can easily turn into your favorite reading spots with very little effort. 

The first place you can get some good "reading" time is in your car. If you commute to work for fifteen minutes each way for five days a week, you have two and a half hours a week to be listening to your new audiobooks. You're already there, so you might as well turn your car into your own private reading room. 

The second place to get your audiobooks in is at the gym. If you spend an hour at the gym 3-4 times a week, that's all time you could be making yourself better. Just by putting your headphones in, you could transform your workout into a time for learning and development. 

There's a hack to make it all happen a little faster, too. Most audiobooks are under eight hours long, but you can almost cut that time in half by increasing the speed of the audio through the app. It takes some getting used to, but I listen to books on 1.75 speed and have found that to be a really effective way to read more every day.

You have hours of your week ready to be turned into knowledge that you need to make your business successful. Or even if you don't run a business, you could be using that time to develop any part of your life that you want to.
